Toybox - let the street children live

Volunteer Overseas

Do you want to serve the children of Latin America on the frontline?

Toybox offers opportunities to serve with local partners on the frontline. Short-term or long term, it is an opportunity to invest your time and talents in some very special children and communities. Just be prepared to receive more than you give!

Toybox Step

...is our short term programme, which runs for four months in the spring, or three to seven weeks in the summer and usually involves working on practical projects like building. You would become part of the community for the time you are there, attending a local church and building relationships with local people.

Helpful information for would be steppers!

Toybox Stride

... is our long term programme and runs from from six months to two years, usually beginning in September. You would experience life working with street children – perhaps as part of the street team or in one of the homes. Latin Link can personalise the placement to your needs, and will support you as you prepare to go abroad and while you are there.

Helpful information for would be striders!

Eyewitness

Graeme Hamilton spent 9 months in Guatemala, where he was on a Stride Programme with our partners, Latin Link. He writes of our work with street children:

"It´s been great to see what good work God is doing through Toybox - amazing in fact. I find it hard to believe that most of the boys in Jireh were once on the street or living in communities like I visited in Escuintla - the transformation in them and their circumstances just seems amazing. I´ve been really impressed by how Jireh is run, how the boys take responsibility for doing different things around the house and the great family atmosphere. It was also amazing to see - if only briefly - one of the street teams in action at night on the front line.

I can´t help but think that if Jesus was here in person he´d be right in the middle of work like this - it´s great that his compassion and action are here through Toybox. I guess I can´t talk highly enough of the work and I don´t expect that things for me will ever be the same again after seeing it for myself."
