Toybox - let the Street Children live!

I would like to

Meet some of the children

The children Toybox helps to support come from Guatemala and Bolivia. Most of them either live on the streets, are trying to leave the streets, or have been helped to leave the streets.

Other children helped by the projects Toybox supports have never lived on the streets. They come from very poor and sometimes very difficult homes.

Here are some of their stories...

Randy

Randy's mum spent a lot of time in prison and has now sadly died. His dad doesn't want to know him. Randy was found living on the streets of Guatemala, where he was in a lot of danger from violent people.

The street team in Guatemala (people who make friends with street children) found Randy. They spent a lot of time with him on the streets, getting to know him. He began to trust them and let them help him.

Randy now lives in a home for boys in Guatemala. He has new parents to care for him, and is receiving the love that he needs. Randy says "I like it in Jireh home and I like to be here. I like it because we go out places."

Miriam

Miriam comes from a very big family in Bolivia. She has nine brothers and sisters! Her dad has left the family, and her mum went to Argentina because she couldn't look after her children. Miriam's family were being looked after by her oldest sister.

Miriam's mum is now back in Bolivia and has found a job washing clothes. Miriam goes to the Oasis project which helps her and two of her sisters, which helps them and also helps their mum.

Miriam's favourite food is chuleta (pork chops). Miriam likes to listen to music and sing.  Her best friend is called Cecilia.

Ingrid

Ingrid used to live on the streets with her mum. They lived in a very dangerous area, and Ingrid would often be left alone. She didn't have enough to eat, and had to beg for money.

She moved into a home for girls in Guatemala, called Salem. To begin with, she was quite ill and had a lot of problems. Now she is a very bubbly girl! Her sister Dinora also lives in this home - Ingrid says Dinora is her best friend.

Ingrid is very happy at school and works very hard. She even likes doing homework! She also likes riding her bike and painting.

Ingrid says "I live in a beautiful place, and with many sisters who I love".
